If you have specific questions please reach out to Roshni or Bhavik directly! We’d love to help. Our general guidance is to wear whatever attire you are most comfortable wearing, but if you’d like to wear Indian attire you certainly can for each event (Friday’s Welcome Reception, Saturday’s Wedding Ceremony and the Wedding Reception that evening). Below we have provided some more specific details for each event, along with some vendors you can purchase the attire from. It is always better to try clothes on in person but if that isn’t possible you can often arrange a video call or send in your sizing. For any vendors in India we suggest at least 5 weeks of lead time from the moment you place the order to the when it will arrive at your doorstep. For vendors based in the United States (New York, Atlanta, Chicago) you should anticipate 2-3 weeks from when the order is placed. This website is a great resource https://www.lukhstudio.com/pages/dress-guide
For our Welcome Reception keep in mind that (weather permitting) it will be located outdoors on the patio area of the hotel. If you’d like to wear Indian attire, we suggest “Indo-Western” fashion – basically something less formal than you would wear the next day. If you’d like to opt for western attire we suggest smart casual, summer casual or business casual attire – we’ll serve heavy snacks but you’ll want to wear something comfortable in case you want to grab dinner or drinks nearby.
For our Baraat (which takes place outdoors) and Wedding Ceremony (indoors) we suggest Indian attire. If you are staying at the hotel, you can easily change after the ceremony into your evening attire. For men we suggest wearing a Kurta (and potentially a Koti). You can certainly borrow a Kurta from a friend or purchase it. The sizes typically correspond to your suit size and are quite forgiving so you can purchase this online or even better, in person. For those in Chicago, there are some great options on Devon Avenue or in the suburbs (near Schaumburg). Other major cities will also have Indian attire stores, please reach out to Bhavik for recommendations. For women, we suggest wearing a Lehenga (also called Lehenga Choli, Mehendi Lehenga, Sangeet Lehenga, or Engagement Lehenga). You can also wear a Salwar Kameez. If you opt not to wear Indian attire, you can wear a dress you would wear to a western wedding ceremony! Important: Please avoid wearing Black or Pure White attire.
For men this is easy, wear a suit or formal wedding attire. For women, you can certainly wear a Saree if you would like but keep in mind that you might need some assistance in draping the Saree so you’ll want to practice in advance or have someone help. You can also wear an Indian style gown, Lehenga, Sharara or Anarkali Suit…something a bit fancier than the Wedding Ceremony. You are also more than welcome to wear any formal dress or gown.
If you are in a large city like Chicago, NYC, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Houston, etc. we suggest visiting a store in person to make a purchase. You can also borrow attire from a friend. If you’d like to purchase (or rent) attire online we recommend starting as soon as possible (especially if shipping from India) and having your sizes measured accurately. The season begins the weekend after the wedding on September 4th. Which was the main driver of this date (as Bhavik has season tickets). We are super excited for the season and have big games against Notre Dame & Indiana that will give us a shot at the playoff as a G5 team.
