Gruene, TX is just 10 minutes from our venue and is a great option to enjoy a nice summer day with family and friends. Here you can walk around and shop at the boutiques and antique stores, grab some ice cream or frosé, listen to live music, and eat on the river. We recommend making reservations at Gristmill for lunch or dinner. Gruene is also known for their historic dance hall (Gruene Hall) where George Strait got his start! Check out their website for country artists playing Labor Day weekend.
Fredericksburg is Texas’ wine country located just north of San Antonio and is a very special place to Cody and I. We have spent many first dates and long weekends enjoying the endless wineries and walking down Main Street shopping, eating and listening to live music. Photo is of Augusta Vin Winery.
Boerne is another hidden gem about 20 minutes north of San Antonio that Cody and I absolutely love. Labor Day weekend will feature the annual Kendall County Fair and the accompanying Labor Day Parade down Main Street. The weekend offers a mix of small-town charm, including rodeos, live music, a parade, and local vendors in the Hill Country. Our favorite spots are Free Roam Brewery (kid and dog friendly) and Lost Oak winery which both have outdoor seating and live music.
Enchanted Rock State Natural area is a State Park located just outside of Fredericksburg, TX that has serval walking trails and a massive granite dome that you can climb to the top of. Reservations are required prior to arriving.
Natural Bridge Caverns is a great option for both kids and adults and is a multi-level cavern system featuring unique formations. It offers guided tours through its underground chambers, along with above-ground activities like zip lines, ropes courses, and a maze.
Boerne lake is great for a quiet lake day where you can rent paddle boards and kayaks. We like to go eat Wings at Sauced or Pizza at Inferno's downtown Boerne afterwards!
Tubing down the Guadalupe river is very popular during the summertime in Texas. Visitors can rent tubes to float down the river, a trip that typically lasts about two to three hours. The river is located near other attractions like Schlitterbahn Waterpark and Landa Park. It can get very crowded, especially on a holiday weekend, so please keep this in mind if you have young children.
The historic River Walk runs through Downtown San Antonio where you can walk, shop, enjoy local art and grab a bite to eat right on the river. They also offer guided boat tours where you can learn the history of the Alamo and Spanish Missions and enjoy the architecture of historic buildings and hotels along the river.
The Historic Pearl is a large outdoor area along the river walk that has bars, restaurants and a large food court, as well as the Pearl farmers market and local boutiques. We recommend having brunch at Southerleigh brewery or Lunch/Dinner at Down on Greyson.
