How We Met

September 2014

We met fall semester of my sophomore year at UMaine, Eric was a senior. I joined a club called Operation H.E.A.R.T.S. on campus which is basically a volunteer organization for students in the medical field! Little did I know, Eric was Vice President of that organization and was also the brother of my best friend in nursing school, Natalie :) I remember walking into the first meeting and being blown away by his character, his leadership, and his dashing good looks! I later found out, Eric went home that night and asked Natalie about me and looked up my profile on social media :) Anyways, it was instant chemistry! We both couldn't believe how easily conversation flowed and how natural it felt being together. This was in September, but due to life circumstances, it wasn't until April that we started dating after months and months of lingering after Operation H.E.A.R.T.S meetings to talk, intentionally running into each other around campus, surprise Dunkin Donuts coffees, and using "studying at the library" as an excuse just to spend some time together. Our first date was a 20 mile run followed by the biggest plate of nachos I've ever seen... doesn't get much better than that! Then the rest is history.

How He Proposed

July 1, 2017

Eric got down on one knee on July 1, 2017 on the top of Mount Rogers in Grayson State Park in Virginia surrounded by WILD PONIES. Eric has never been one to keep surprises well... he historically gets too excited, wears his emotions on his sleeve and I instantly know something is up. Well, this time, I was surprised up until the very last couple minutes! We had hiked to the top of Mount Rogers and I was standing in awe looking out over the rolling hills, greenery and grandeur of the mountain range. There was no one else around, just us, taking in the moment. Eric had the sweetest, most unusual idea for him, to set the self timer on the GoPro to get a picture of the two of us with the beautiful mountain view. I thought this was GREAT, (he never usually suggests pictures) (that's always me) so I was thrilled he had this idea! I walked ahead and got into position to pose for the GoPro. Eric came over to stand next to me for the shot... but instead of smiling for the camera... he got down on one knee. He had in-fact set the GoPro on video mode so we actually have footage of the whole moment! Oh.. additionally.. while on one knee, Eric froze of nerves and very few words came out of his mouth (haha!), he just knelt speechless holding a ring out to me. I laughed! Don't worry! Later on, he made up for it with some of the most genuine, authentic, and sweet words on the planet. But safe the say the moment was silly, a little messy, sweaty from the hike but utterly romantic. And here we are today :)
