Betty and Sam originally met in Summer 2011 during Spanish class at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. At the time, both saw each other as classmates and friends. While they had a great time working together on a group project, both went on with their normal lives and lost touch after that class. Fast forward to October 2016, Betty recently moved to Chicago for work and Sam was visiting a college friend in Chicago. Both Betty and Sam ended up at the same UT alumni bar in Chicago. At the alumni bar, Betty was looking for an outlet to charge her phone and the only outlet she saw was in the corner where Sam was sitting. Talk about fate! There's still debate to this day on who said "Hey Betty" or "Hey Sam" first but nonetheless there was immediate attraction once they laid eyes on one another. Betty and Sam continued to keep in touch but Sam had accepted an incredible opportunity to work overseas in Asia a few months prior to re-meeting. Like for any couple, long distance is difficult but try across the world! Even though they were 9,359 miles apart (Chicago to Singapore) for two years, Betty and Sam grew stronger. Sam returned to the US and Betty moved to Austin, TX to close out their long distance chapter. Sam proposed in Cabo, Mexico in October 2020. Betty and Sam now live in Nashville, TN and are excited to be closer to family and friends.
