On August 4, 2014, Kyle was persuaded to go to a Summer Stock Austin Alumni Concert at the Long Center by his friends, Haley and Jose. Their sole purpose: To introduce Kyle and Sara. When Sara entered the stage, Haley and Jose elbowed Kyle to make sure he knew that was her. After the show, Haley waited for Sara and Jose babysat Kyle outside to make sure he didn't leave without a proper introduction. When Haley got Sara's attention, she brought her outside and exclaimed, "Sara, this is Kyle Kirchhoff; Kyle, this is Sara Kirchhoff - wait no! Burke! Her name is Sara Burke! I'm sorry, I'm so nervous!" Kyle and Sara shook hands, stood around and talked with the group for a minute, then left. In the excitement of just finishing a show and then meeting her future husband, Sara does not remember any of these events. #strongbeginnings
Kyle and Sara's mutual friend, Scott, is known for his game nights. Both of them have been to countless game nights at Scott's place, but in 10 years of knowing Scott, Kyle has never been invited to the same game night as Sara before. A few weeks after Kyle and Sara's forgotten first meeting, Scott decides to invite them to the same game night. Coincidence? Only Scott knows. When Kyle arrived [last as usual], Sara, her best friend Ismael, Scott, and Kyle's brother Justin, were all in the Kitchen making food. Kyle remembers Sara looking at him and verbally saying, "DAAAAAYMN," but Sara doesn't remember this either. After a few hours of fun, laughter, and wine, everyone decided it was time to go home. Kyle, famous for his charm, said goodbye in a high voice and left in a hurry. Not happy with the way he left things, Kyle listened to his "Get Pumped" Mix on the way home and built up enough courage to message Sara when he parked. "It was nice meeting----" "You have a nice face----" "Thanks for----" "You suck at games----" "Date. You. Me. Soon.----" And then it hit him: "Hey I just met you and this is crazy, but here's my Facebook, so text me maybe?" It was so bad, it worked.
For days, Kyle and Sara texted each other every waking moment, but they set a rule that they could only talk about shallow subjects (favorite color, movie, etc.) until they met in person and had an opportunity to get to know each other better. On September 3, 2014, they met at San Gabriel Park in Georgetown, TX for their first date. Sara brought a guitar and Kyle brought his awkward disposition. The two talked for hours in the park, got in trouble with the cops for breaking park curfew, and moved their conversation to the Palace Theater, where they continued to talk until 4am. But not before they shared their first dance and kiss to Clair De Lune. Super cheesy - we know. We had hoped it would be less cliché, but here we are and now we're getting married. #pukefest2014
One year after their first date, Kyle knew he wanted to marry Sara. He was so confident, he told his Mom that in a year, on their two year anniversary, he wanted to propose in a big way. One year later, with the help of their closest friends and family members, Kyle performed a personalized musical number for Sara ending in the big question.
