I was pretty much at my wits end when it came to dating. I was feeling defeated when it came to even living in San Diego. My thoughts were starting to become more and more focused on leaving San Diego and trying to build my life up again in a new place. Little did I know, Facebook Dating, would bring forward a picture and brief description of the last woman I would ever date. Ashley and I started to talk when Facebook declared us a "match" in likeness towards one another. We shared what we each did for a living, our families, our pets, and her kids. Our consistent talking led to a plan to have our first date on February 16th. With both of us having such busy work lives, neither of us realized at first that our first date would be around Valentines day. So, without planning it, we both gave each other little Valentines gifts to each other during our first date. And since this was our first time meeting, I didn't want to show up with the stereotypical Valentines gifts of flowers and chocolate. Instead I got what every restaurant manager needs: pens, Sharpies, and a nice card. I'll admit that it was a last minute decision, but one I thought would at least get Ashley to smile. Ashley made me some homemade chocolate covered strawberries, with the biggest strawberries I'd ever seen. Yes, they were delicious! And yes, Ashley did smile, laughed even at my gift for her. Exclaiming how she's always losing Sharpies and it was the perfect gift. We shared our first kiss. Fast forward to October. We're in Kansas City for our friends wedding. Being a groomsman had me running around the morning of the wedding a bit more than others trying to get dressed and cleaned up. As I'm putting on my tie, I hear Ashley's voice in the doorway and see her in a beautiful blue gown. My immediate thoughts went to how much I wanted to see her in another gown, but in white. That was the exact moment I knew I was going to propose to her. And that proposal is a whole other story in itself.
