Bethany's Version The first time I met Victor was the summer of 2021. I had just graduated from college and was planning on moving to the Chicago area after a summer back in MA. One day, my dad's car was in the shop and he needed me to drop him off at Grace Chapel, the church he's served as a pastor at for my entire life. As I was pulling up to the building, he encouraged me to stop in and meet the new High School Ministry Director that had been on staff for about a month. I came in and met Victor Matos, this new director who had just joined the team from Portland, OR. We chatted for maybe two minutes before I left thinking "I'm so relieved I'm moving back to Chicago, because if I stick around here I know I'll end up falling for Victor... and there's no way I can have a crush on someone who has my dad as their boss." Victor's Version In moving to the Boston area there were many changes I knew I was walking into. In this new place I knew I would have a new place to live and a new job to start. What I wasn't ready for was to meet the person I would one day being calling my partner in life. Standing in the lobby of the church I found myself in conversation with someone that made small talk seem effortless. The best things in life sometimes have catches. Her catch? She was the daughter of my direct supervisor. This combined with the brand new place I was at in life led me to avoid any and all conversation. The Lord was writing a different story apparently because I found myself around her at gatherings, then texting about her interest in volunteering with students and after one evening where we shared how we felt we knew we were strapping into whatever the future had in store.
