How We Met According to Bethany

10/17/2016

I'm assuming we met on 10/17/16 because that was my first day as a teller at Washington Federal. Thomas works upstairs in the same building where I was being trained. Because it was Autumn we had a couple of scare crows in the branch lobby for decorations and Thomas, along with one of his upstairs buddies, would move the scare crows almost every morning. It was fun coming into work everyday to see where the scare crows would be! Little did I know, someone had told Thomas that I was married and it would be a year before Thomas would find out that I am not.

Thomas Learned the Truth

November 2017

About a year after I started at the bank someone had informed Thomas that I was indeed single. The source was not the most trustworthy so Thomas decided to ask me some questions to be sure. After I had confirmed that I was indeed single he still did not ask me out. Next came the work Christmas party... his co-workers from upstairs provided him time alone with me while we were cleaning up so that Thomas could ask me out but he did not. As it got closer to Christmas I got Thomas to start texting me but he still did not ask me out. A month later, when he found out it was my birthday he showered me with little presents (including a homemade gluten free cake) but still did not ask me out. About 2 weeks after my birthday I texted Thomas asking him if he was ever going to invite me to coffee or anything, then he asked me to dinner. So we finally had our first date 3 days before Valentine's Day and things have been wonderful ever since!

How We Met According to Thomas

10/18/16

We should have met Monday, October 17th, 2016. However, when introductions were made upstairs at the bank, I was left out. Nevertheless, the beautiful new teller had caught my eye and she seemed to be nice, as she was being introduced to the others. I knew I wanted to meet her and the general consensus upstairs was that while she was probably a few years younger than I, she was likely in my age range. The next day, Tuesday, October 18th, 2016, I came up with a "very clever" plan...I had my own banking to do and that would get me an introduction! While I got the introduction, I also noticed a ring on her finger, but wasn't positive it was a wedding ring. Not wanting to make anything awkward with a new coworker, I waited to see if I could determine if it was indeed a wedding ring. After a few weeks, I found out from what should have been the most reliable source downstairs, that it was a wedding band. While I was disappointed, I tried to respect the fact that she was married and to not let my disappointment show (if you ask my coworkers, I did a poor job of the latter). After some time, I started to get the feeling the source from downstairs may have been wrong, so I employed someone from upstairs to confirm...she did and I had to resign myself to the fact that she was taken.

After I Learned The Truth

After that, it happened as Bethany said, I was informed that she was in fact not married and not dating anyone. After I confirmed with her for myself (using another "very clever" plan), I knew I wanted to ask her out, but didn't want to do it at work (I still wasn't sure what the bosses would think about that). Also, I didn't want to do it over the phone. As she said, I took my sweet time doing it and blew my best opportunity, when everyone left the Christmas party. Luckily, she didn't catch on to that being why everyone left so quickly...I told her about that, later. She was the one to ask if I was ever going to ask her out. I was at a Stockmen's meeting and received a text. Being in the middle of the meeting, I didn't check my phone until I was heading out to my pickup with my grandpa, a few hours later...From Bethany: "Hey, I have a question for you." My reply: "Sorry, I was in a meeting. Ok, shoot." Bethany: "Are you ever going to ask me to coffee or something?" I know my grandpa and I were talking on the ride home, but I can't say what it was about, I can only hope my driving didn't scare him too much...I was a little excited! Yes, I was texting and driving...it was a very important conversation! I do get plenty of grief from my friends and family about her being the one to text me, but it's all worth it and I couldn't be happier!
