John and I worked together at Applebee's for 2 years before we finally started dating. He states he knew right away that he liked me when we first met, but did not think I would be interested in him. I felt the same way. We were great friends, and I knew I liked him, but coming from extremely different backgrounds I never thought he would be interested. Finally he had the courage to tell me how he felt, and the rest is history. We had our first date May 17, 2011, and will be celebrating 6 years of dating this year!
On May 13, 2016 I graduated from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry with my Doctorate of Dental Surgery. The following day my family threw me a graduation party with all of my closest family and friends. Through some sneaky planning between John and my mom and sisters they were able to get everyone outside while I was on the phone in the kitchen. Then I was informed I needed to go outside for a photo. As I walked outside I saw my whole family standing in a line holding signs with photos and a poem, and John standing in the gazeebo. All of the party guests watched with cameras out as I read the poem. "Ever since the day we met, I knew you were the one. You're wonderful, beautiful, caring, and true, and also a lot of fun. With five years behind and forever ahead, the best is yet to be. My love, my rock, my heart and soul, Bethany Noel Taylor will you marry me?" As I got to the end of the poem, John got down on his knee and proposed with the most beautiful ring I have ever seen! It means so much that my family was a part of everything. It was the perfect proposal and a weekend I will never forget!
