Because Chad was so outgoing (and cute), EVERYONE knew who he was, and I was crushing on him for a good two years before he even knew I existed, but I was too shy to ever even consider introducing myself. Chad and I officially met about halfway through junior year of high school, in Spanish class; As a natural consequence to Chad's friendly nature, he was moved around to just about every seat in the classroom before the teacher finally gave up and placed him in the very far back corner against the wall, with only one person seated next to him: me. As the teacher put it, this was her sure-fire method to keep Chad quiet because "we all know Bethany is too shy to talk to him." Yes, she said that in front of everyone --in front of my crush. As I sat there probably as red as a tomato, it turns out that embarrassing comment worked out for my good after all, because in that moment Chad made a promise to himself that before the year was up he would get ME to be so talkative, that I would get in trouble with the teacher for talking. I'll spare you the details and just tell you now that it worked. And it turns out that Chad didn't hate talking to me either, because even after he reached his personal goal we continued talking-- during class, after school at tennis practice, and finally on our first date where we hiked Table Mountain in Jamestown, California! Ever since, he hasn't been able to get me to stop talking!
