We were neighbors at the UofA and our roommates, Pri, Joe, & Anthony were friends with each other. Pri was convinced if we met that we would fall in love and “make beautiful Jewish babies.” After several awkward encounters, Nir decided to ask me out on Rosh Hashanah. After a lovely sushi dinner where Nir taught me how to use chopsticks, we returned to his house to enjoy a sweet cake his mother had sent him to celebrate the Jewish New Year. Little did we know, while we were cutting the cake in the front house, someone decided to rob Nir’s room in the guesthouse. We spent hours talking, bonding over our love for the movie Blue Streak, and eventually laughing about the wild situation we were in while waiting for the police to arrive. The rest is truly history, we didn’t spend more than a few days apart from that day forward and can’t wait to continue to build our lives together!
It was the middle of the pandemic and we had developed our quarantine routine filled with cooking, Netflix, wine, and lots of Kiva snuggles. Nir suggested taking a staycation in Asheville, which is an amazing little mountain town in North Carolina. I thought nothing of it and agreed we were in need of some good time outside of our apartment. Our year-long adventure in NC was coming to an end and we wanted to be sure we visited the Biltmore Estate, which is an incredible 8,000-acre estate in the mountains of Asheville, before returning to Arizona. When we arrived, Nir suggested we visit the gardens. It was a bit rainy and VERY humid, but this did not stop me from exploring and frolicking outside amongst the flowers. Nir patiently waited as I skipped around smelling everything and capturing the beautiful scenery with my phone. He then suggested we walk over to this little peninsula on the lake. Nir began speaking softly and saying the sweetest things about the life we have built together. As sweet as his words were, I thought to myself Nir doesn’t usually talk like this… OH SHIT Nir doesn’t talk like this. Before I knew it, he was down on one knee, and I of course said YES! We then proceeded to the winery and enjoyed an entire bottle of wine BEFORE we went wine tasting. Needless to say, we definitely celebrated the rest of the weekend and have been enjoying our engagement ever since!
