Are you familiar with the term “Godwinks”? An event or personal experience, often identified as coincidence, so astonishing that it is seen as a sign of divine intervention, especially when perceived as the answer to a prayer. Both of us have experienced the loss of a beloved spouse, Beth twice. Being a Widow and Widower in our early 60s, we each hoped and prayed God would help us meet someone to love and share the rest of our lives with. We met on eHarmony. Serendipitously we joined eHarmony within 24 hours of each other although we each had low expectations for internet dating. eHarmony identified Beth as a potential match and after reading her profile Elliott felt strongly, he should send Beth a message introducing himself. Beth responded and after messaging for a bit and really hitting it off, we decided to meet for lunch. Unfortunately, Beth was exposed to COVID and we had to cancel our lunch date. The silver lining to postponing our first date was an extended texting marathon where we "talked" about so many things, later we both agreed that by the time we were able to have our first date it felt like we had already known each other for months. Our first date was a picnic. Being the “analytical, trust, but verify” type person Elliott is and a bit cautious about internet dating, he researched Beth; reviewing her Linkedin profile and other public information to confirm she was who she said she was; Ok, he had visions of being scammed by some 400 lb. bearded back-woodsman with bad hygiene. Beth is more of a “follow your heart” person and trusted Elliott was who he said he was. Later Beth was surprised that Elliott had researched her and she was even more surprised when her friend Linda told her she had contacted somebody she knows and had them run a background check on Elliott and he checked out, LoL! In November 2022 we attended the wedding of a friend of Elliott’s in New Orleans. When we got back to our hotel room after the wedding, Beth was surprised when Elliott got down on one knee and proposed to her. Beth said yes! We celebrated with champagne from room service, thank you Hotel Monteleone! Living 80 miles apart and having no mutual friends, the odds of us ever meeting were astronomical. So many things had to happen in the right sequence at the right time for us to meet and fall in love, we attribute it to “Godwinks.” We are grateful, thankful and blessed!
