We met at a bar called the Vault in Redlands, CA. Dana had graduated from UC Davis the year before and had just decided to move to Spain to teach English. I was working toward my MBA at the University of Redlands. We went on our first date to a Thai restaurant a few days later! - Jeff

We moved to Humboldt County in 2019 to start our teaching careers. I've been teaching 6th grade ever since, and Jeff has taught fourth grade and now teaches high school special ed. My mom and stepdad, Russ, were up visiting in the summer of 2020, and while my mom and I were out, Jeff let Russ in on the plan. We all hiked down to the beach on Ossagon Trail in Redwoods State Park. Jeff asked Russ to take a picture of us. He started recording a video and Jeff said he wanted to take his hiking pack off. He got down on one knee, took out the ring and proposed. I never thought he could pull off surprising me, so it took a few minutes to register. - Dana
