El Yunque is the only tropical rainforest in the US National Forest System! This beautiful rainforest has plenty of activities for all guests including hiking trails of varying difficulty, waterfalls, and natural swimming pools. Entrance to El Yunque is free, and it is ten minute drive from the resort! However, rideshares are not allowed to drop guests off at the main entrance. Alternatively, you can hire a private tour company to pick you up and show you around the rainforest. The main entrance to El Yunque is La Mina Recreation Area, and admission works on a first come first serve basis with a max of 200 cars in the parking lot. We recommend going early in the day or later in the afternoon to avoid the main rushes. On your way there or home, you may want to consider stopping at Las Pailas natural water slides too. Here, guests can cool off by sliding down the rocks into a natural crystal clear pool!
If you are a foodie, the Luquillo Kiosks are the place for you! With 60+ kiosks offering a multitude of traditional Puerto Rican staples, there is no shortage of food to try here. The kiosks are located up the street from the Fairfield Luquillo Beach hotel where we will have a room block, and a ten minute drive from the Wyndham resort. Most importantly, they line the beautiful Luquillo Beach that guests can experience after enjoying the cuisine!
In Fajardo, around 30 minutes from where the wedding festivities will take place, you can enter the world of Avatar, as we like to say! At this lagoon, you can schedule a kayak or boat tour to enjoy the bioluminescent plankton that light up the water with each movement. The best times to visit/tour are on dark nights with a new moon to appreciate the glowing water at its best!
Puerto Rico is known for having some of the best beaches in the world and we promise, they live up to the hype! Some of our favorites near the wedding venue include La Monserrate Beach, Luquillo Beach, and Playa La Pared. La Monserrate Beach is listed as one of PR’s top beaches, and it is around a 10 minute drive from the Wyndham resort. Visit Playa La Pared if you are an avid surfer or want to learn! If not, the surrounding area has a great atmosphere with plenty of bars and restaurants to hang out. All beaches in Puerto Rico are free to the public!
Old San Juan is the historical district of the capital and one of the most popular places to visit when exploring Puerto Rico. This district is abundant in history and culture, with the main national landmarks being El Morro and Castillo San Cristobal. Walking tours with a local guide are available, or feel free to pave your own path. The architecture is beautiful, the history is rich, and the food is delicious!
For all our rum lovers, Casa Bacardi in San Juan is a must visit! Enjoy a mixology class, try a rum tasting, tour the distillery, and learn all about the history of this famous Puerto Rican rum.
