How We Met

It all started at the Detroit MITSC Center where she worked for MDOT and I worked for the MSP, not with sparks, but with silence. Deb didn’t think much of me at first. I was just another dude on the other side of the wall. But for me, I saw something different. There was something about her, her strength, and the way she carried herself that drew me in. I didn’t know how, why or when, but I knew I wanted to be part of her life. Funny enough, the bridge between us turned out to be her oldest son, Chris. I first met Chris as he would visit MSP as he was being dropped off at school by Chanita. Through him, our worlds began to intertwine in quiet, meaningful ways. Conversations that once felt formal slowly became familiar. I let my natural charm do its work; persistent, patient, and genuine. Bit by bit, wall by wall, she began to see me not just as the guy from work… but as the man who truly saw her. There wasn’t one single moment when everything changed, it was a collection of them. Laughs we didn’t expect, understanding that came without words. Somewhere along the way, she fell for me. And I fell even harder for her. But love, even when it's meant to be, isn’t always easy. We faced storms; mostly from outside voices trying to dim what God had lit in our hearts. It wasn’t always smooth. It was rocky at times, and there were moments we wondered if we’d make it. But love doesn’t run, it roots. And slowly, steadily, we built something unshakable. With time, we realized that what we had wasn’t just coincidence. It was God-ordained. Every obstacle only made us stronger. Every challenge taught us to fight for each other, not against. Our love didn’t happen overnight — it was forged through time, tested by fire, and refined by grace. Now, looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing. Because the woman who once barely noticed me and tried to block me out became the love of my life. And the story we share is living proof that when God writes the script, even a rocky beginning can lead to the most beautiful forever.
