Things to Know About Minnesota - Getting to Duluth and Where to Stay

Travel Note

Flight Tips

Most major airports fly direct to Minneapolis/St. Paul (MSP). From here, you can transfer to fly directly into Duluth (DLH). The major airline for MN is Delta, and United if you are coming from O’Hare. The plane ticket can get expensive when adding the flight from MSP to DLH. For cost conscientious folks plan a full day of travel because we recommend taking one of the shuttles we recommend below. For nature folks, we recommend getting a automobile rental, since it'll allow ya'll to explore the North Shore (see things to do).

Rental Car

Automobile Rental

- Drive from MSP to Duluth on I-35, ~ 2.5 hrs - Highly recommend renting a car to get around Duluth and see the natural beauty around Lake Superior

Travel Note

Cheapest Bus: Jefferson Lines (Greyhound)

Travel Note

Preferred Bus: Landline

This is typically a nice coach bus/van with solid WI-FI connectivity.

Travel Note

Shuttle Option: Groome

These are 12-passenger shuttles, they have many options throughout the day to travel to or from MSP to DLH, you must book ahead of time though!

Hotel

Hotels with blocked rooms

We got a discount code for these two hotels as it is peak season for Duluth. There are several other hotels in the area (Canal Park being closest, followed by downtown), so do whatever works best for you. Below the two listed hotels is a link to "visit Duluth" where you can find more listed places to stay.

Hotel

Holiday Inn & Suites Duluth-Downtown, an IHG Hotel

200 West 1st Street, Duluth, MN 55802

- Not as centrally located as Inn on Lake Superior, as this is not in "Canal Park" that is the main tourist area. - We have a 10% discount. To get this discount, click the link here, select the dates for our wedding weekend to book, and under rate preference drop-down menu select "wedding special" - Walking Distance to Reception Venue (just need to cross a major highway, I-35). There is a skywalk from canal park to downtown; however, don't know when this skywalk officially open when the reception ends. Otherwise, it is legit to cross I-35, there is a bridge with a pedestrian sidewalk.

Discount Code - Go to link, choose "wedding special" under rate preference
