How We Met

A Magical Place Called Boston College

At the end of each semester at Boston College, many of the students would find themselves with a surplus dining balance, needing to spend it down prior to the start of a new semester. Amidst these efforts to not let BC leech an extra penny, many could be observed purchasing bulk chasers and chips, while their less fortunate/hungrier counterparts would commonly be found lurking the dining halls in the hopes of encountering a generous soul willing to provide them with their next meal. It was during one of these end-of-semester spending sprees in the Fall of 2012, when an unsuspecting Bernard would be introduced to Kara by their mutual friend, Raheem. Bernard’s impression on Kara was put to the test only one month later when she decided to approach him at a party, recognizing him as a friendly face in a sea of uninteresting frat boys. The two hit it off, and after a night of deep conversation (get your mind out of the gutter, people!), they decided to venture on a date outside of the campus walls, away from inquiring minds. An instant connection was formed on this first date, ushered by their mutual love of board games, more precisely "Table Topics." Bernard knew Kara was the one for him the instant she wallpapered his entire room as an April Fools prank. Little did Kara know that Bernard’s mother was visiting him that day, and the laugh they shared from such a surprise would forever mark the nature of B&K’s relationship in the eyes of his mother. Bernard asked Kara to go steady that night, and here we are nine years later, living with Kara’s mother (yikes!).

The Pandemic

The Year 2020

As Bernard and Kara’s relationship deepened, so too did their family’s faith in their partnership. Bernard received Kara’s grandmother’s engagement ring during the holidays in 2018 with the promise of making an honest woman out of her. He decided to uphold his end of the bargain in January 2020. With a resounding yes, they celebrated their engagement amongst friends, family and best girl Izzy. Shortly after, COVID-19 entered the global landscape and B&Ks wedding plans were put on hold due to the uncertainty surrounding the virus. They ultimately made the challenging decision to have an intimate backyard ceremony with only a few family members in attendance. This allowed them the precious gift of having Kara’s grandmother, Barbara be present to witness their union on August 6th, 2020. Bernard and Kara are now excited to share their commitment and vows in front of friends, family, and best girl Izzy two years later!
