The Story of Us

We prayed for this

From strangers to best friends we have been consistent in two things from the start of ‘Us’. We have consistently chased after what God wants FOR us and what He wants FROM us. We met in 2013 at Rutgers during our freshman year of college. We didn’t have a love at first sight story but it did give us a path to being best friends to the end story. During college, there was no initial ‘spark’ to grow us past acquaintances. It wasn’t until Moises’ last semester of college and Berley’s post-grad year that we were able to move from acquaintances to friends. We started to enjoy each other's company more and more. Gradually, we transitioned from only hanging out in groups to hanging out with just each other. The more we hung out, the more joy would consume us. We would find ourselves saying the same things at the same time, having the same random thoughts, and having the same interests. Our connection was undeniable. We were eager to chat with each other every day, never wanting to go home, never wanting to hang up. We looked forward to our next hellos. Although it may have been clear on the outside what was manifesting, we weren't sure if our feelings were mutual. Moises had been spending more time thinking about Berley as more than a friend. One day, he decided to share that as their friendship grew, his feelings for her grew as well. Moises wasn’t sure what Berley’s response would be. However, he knew that Berley was a woman worth taking any chance for. He decided to be vulnerable, which surprised Berley, in a great way. Berley was excited to share that she had been feeling the same emotions all along. We were so happy, beyond belief, to find out that we both had been growing feelings that were no longer able to fit inside a friendship alone. Although we agreed that this was something we wanted, we wanted to know if this was something God wanted. While we had emotional confirmation, moral confirmation, and confirmation from friends that we could be a good fit together, what we needed was eternal confirmation that God wanted us together. We prayed about what to do and we moved on that. For the course of 30 days, we fasted and prayed during the same time. We did not communicate with each other during this period to hear the voice of the Lord clearly. We agreed that whatever answer we heard is what we would move towards. If you are reading this then you know what we heard and thank God that we did. On March 30th, 2019 Moises asked Berley to be his girlfriend. We have been through so many good times, filled with laughter, joy and peace, that we know God is responsible for. We have also been through some rough times, filled with confusion, uncertainty, and hesitation, that we know God has brought us through. One thing we know for sure is that God has continued to be the third-braided cord in our relationship and will continue to be. All glory belongs to Him. We decided to get married on the day ‘We’ started. March, 30th, 2023. From college freshmen to soon-to-be married 10 years later, we are more than excited to share this moment with you and can't wait to celebrate!
