They started out closeby in 4th grade in Hebrew school. Anna and Jake would see each other during Tuesday and Thursday evenings as they studied their Jewish identities. In 6th grade, Jake left for a different synagogue and they occasionally saw one another during Jewish Youth events throughout the years. Some might remember not seeing Jake at Anna’s Bat Mitzvah and her invitation to his somewhere in a landfill. In high school they shared an English class where Jake could not remember multiple homework assignments or deadlines and asked questions like “hey anna can we write in first person for the paragraphs?” or “what modern text are you using for your essay.” She would respond and he would say “cool thnx”. Despite their obvious chemistry they still separated again once high school ended. This time the distance grew further as Anna began her music studies in Hollywood and Jake moved down to San Diego and eventually across the world to Israel. Our story picks back up in late fall of 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Jake was back in Los Angeles for a rotation in medical school and Anna was living in Arleta. They matched on Hinge and chatted cordially. Jake suspected Anna was just being kind and gave her an out: “Hey I am probably going to delete this app soon as my work is picking up but if you want to grab a coffee feel free to text me whenever!” Although many of you reading would think this was a clever message, Anna was mostly confused as she did not in fact have his number and felt a connection. So he gave her his number (as he kept hers) and they decided on a distanced and masked hike on a bright and sunny December morning. The two kept in touch while Jake moved back to Israel with hours-long facetimes and messages through their 10 hour time difference. Their routine grew stronger just as their love for one another. There was no one else they would rather be speaking to whether it was 6AM or 10PM. The distance eventually closed as he started his Family Medicine residency in Riverside and they traveled back and forth almost weekly to see one another. As they were finally within 80 miles of one another, their relationship was finally able to grow past their daily FaceTimes. In January of 2024, they sat on the couch and waited for news of the Sports Medicine Match. University of Nevada, Reno flashed onto the screen and they thought for a moment what that would mean for the two that were finally within an hour’s drive of each other. Without leaving a second moment to pass they celebrated the fact that this adventure would be one that they would take on together. In June of the same year Jake proposed to Anna on the beaches of Malibu. They had the best celebration and send off they could ask for just weeks before their move to Nevada. Now they are gathering memories and adventures in Reno while they prepare for their long awaited return to Los Angeles, together.
