May 16, 2016 was Benjamin's first day at News 4 in Reno where Kenzie already worked. From day one, the two of them knew there was something special. They would spend the next two years dating other people but maintaining a very close friendship. Benjamin and Kenzie finally decided to give the whole relationship thing a go on New Years 2018. From the day they started dating, they never looked back.
Fast forward to exactly one year after the two started dating. It was a cold, snowy New Year's Eve in northern Nevada. Ben and Kenzie had plans to go to Lake Tahoe for the day. On their way to Tahoe, temperatures dropped to 10 degrees so Kenzie had no plans of getting out of the car at this point. After driving around the lake for a little while, Ben stopped off at Kenzie's favorite beach -- Sand Harbor. It was like pulling teeth for Ben to get Kenzie outside in the freezing cold, but he finally convinced her. After walking down the frigid beach for several minutes, Kenzie decides she wants to go back to the car. Little did she know Ben was literally seconds away from proposing. Ben had to drag Kenzie down the beach a little bit longer where he had a rose petal heart laid out in the sand. Needless to say, popping champagne is really hard with frozen fingers (reference the picture below) but the proposal couldn't have been any more perfect or picturesque. They cannot wait to start the next chapter of their lives together.
