We locked eyes on the second night of college at an Acacia frat party. The night grew into endless conversation and lots of laughter. We quickly came to the realization that our relationship was going to be something special. As time went on, we learned that our circle of friends was intertwined. We would spend time studying, going to OU football games, playing intramural sports, eating meals at the dining hall, and attending house parties with our friends. On Valentine's Day of 2010, Collin ever so sweetly asked Alison to be his girlfriend.
It was the 4th of July, and we were laying poolside and barbecuing with our friends. Alison was bathing in the sun when a butterfly landed on her. Her friend, Taylor, said, "You know when a butterfly lands on you, it's supposed to be a sign of good luck!" Alison smiled but didn't read too much into the statement. Little did she know, something life-changing would happen later that night. We continued with our Independence Day celebration by making our way over to our neighborhood's block party that consisted of food trucks and concert headliner, Pat Benatar. Alison was getting irritated because the venue was packed, with limited spaces to sit. She finally found an empty space where the entire posse could comfortably watch the concert. Alison quickly claimed the spot by sitting down, but Collin wanted her to get up. With a scowl on her face, she stood. As she rose, Collin dropped to one knee. Pat Benatar was in the background singing, "We Belong," and Alison's expression transformed from a scowl, to utter shock, and then to the cheesiest smile. She said yes! The rest of the night was all fireworks.
