How the adventure started

Eric and Ashley first met at Grand Valley State University during their freshman year (2012); they lived on the same floor and quickly became close friends. Six months into their Freshman year, they finally told each other that they liked each other more than friends. A year into their relationship, Eric drove Ashley to the pet store for what was supposed to be fish food. Instead of buying fish food, she adopted a baby bunny, and a new chapter of Kobe was born. Between the rabbit hair, chewing just about everything, sassiness from being fed late, and of course his immaculate chin pillows, he quickly became a huge part of their lives. Fast forward 4 years, during the post-college years of establishing their careers, and other life changes, they came up with this awesome idea to combine their houses together, and their roommates at the time were crazy enough to agree. The craziness doesn’t stop there though; soon having 5 people, one sweet pitbull, and a bunny all living in the same house, they decided to adopt a 6-week-old German Shepherd/Border Collie mix (Kane). The roommates were all supportive of this decision for some reason, and although he may have been challenging at times, everyone including one of their roommate's dog, Kona, chipped in to help raise Kane. With the rather drastic changes of living together, adopting a puppy, while also raising a rabbit, their relationship grew in a way they would not have imagined at the time; it wasn’t just a relationship anymore, but a newly developed family dynamic. In 2020, they had another idea about buying a house as if life wasn’t already crazy enough. After multiple bids and months of looking, they finally found the perfect fixer-upper. They spent most of late 2020/early 2021 renovating their home, and with a lot of help and hard work, they moved their little family of 4 to the Westside of Grand Rapids in May of 2021. In August of 2021, they took a trip to New York with Kane (of course), where Eric proposed! It was the perfect proposal and Ashley wouldn't have wanted it any other way (Kane, Waterfalls, Nature, all within state where her Grandparents grew up in). Unfortunately, about a month later, Kobe was called up to heaven, and the three were crushed. A couple of days later, while on their way to visit a wedding venue in Saugatuck, they decided to make a pit stop at the Humane Society to look at some puppies to boost their spirits. It didn’t take long before a skinny 7-month-old white Husky/Lab/Pitbull puppy they wanted to “take a look at” put all 40 lbs of her in Ashley’s lap and proceeded to lick the happy tears off her face, and that day Stella became part of their family. Throughout Eric and Ashley’s adventures, whether it was road trips, special occasions, anniversaries, or even to the store, the dogs have been (mostly) a part of it all, except for Europe… we couldn’t figure out how to smuggle them to Europe. Throughout these last 10 years and 10 states, 4 countries, and countless cities, our adventure has only begun.
