We had our first date in November 2020 after matching online. After a week of back and forth about food, football, work, and our mutual love of Top Gun, we met for dinner in Westport a few days after Tom's knee surgery (where he was still committed to making the first date despite having a full knee brace and cane). After making the case that we needed to stop at Tom's parents house on our way to dinner (at the same restaurant we had our first date), we got to their house to "check for water damage from the ice storm," as Tom put it. Earlier in the day, Tom, with the help of both families, filled the living room with candles and flowers, and had the ring set aside for exactly the right moment. Once we were inside, he got down on one knee, and despite not remembering what he actually said, it came from the heart, and he got a "YES!"
