Bennett and Rachel’s story began while they were in college at the University of St.Thomas. In the spring of 2014, they met at a friend's house party. The two spent the whole night dancing and singing in the kitchen to their favorite throw back songs, completely unaware that there were other people at the party. While walking home, they realized they lived right down the street from one another; at the same time Rachel was busy adding Bennett on all her social media...she knew this was something special. Bennett was off to Vegas for his 21st birthday shortly after, and he realized he had made an impression when Rachel wished him Happy Birthday on Facebook. The two ran into each other again a couple weeks later at that same house before heading out for the night. They made their way from the party to Tiffs, on to Plums, where Bennett took the cue and asked her to dance. Even though the two can’t remember what the song was for the life of them, that was the dance that started it all. Rachel would say Bennett played hard to get for the next month, and the two officially started dating that July. Since then, the two of them have graduated college together, lived apart (with lots of visits) while Bennett played professional golf in Florida and Arizona, and traveled to Playa Del Carmen, Emerald Isle, Las Vegas, Oahu, Sedona and Page Arizona together, always making an adventure out of any given circumstance. In May of 2018, Bennett moved home from Arizona and signed a lease with Rachel a week later. They moved into their first apartment together in Minnetonka and adopted their puppy, Enzo, that fall.

Last August, Rachel and Bennett traveled to their favorite place, Emerald Isle North Carolina with the Schroeders. Rachel had a suspicion Bennett would propose on this trip since the beach is her happy place and he had dropped a string of hints throughout the summer (what can you do, he was so excited!). The second night, it was pouring rain while the two got ready for dinner. Bennett asked if she wanted to go for a walk on the beach before dinner if the weather was nice enough...that’s all she needed to hear to know it was happening. Therefore, Rachel proceeded to change her planned outfit and take another hour to get ready, because how does one prepare when they know they’re about to be proposed to?! The weather cleared just in time and the two went off on their walk. They like to describe their conversation on that walk as being on autopilot. They both knew what was coming, so they were asking riveting questions like “so you having a good time so far?” and “hey, did you see that seagull?” It started to sprinkle and that was the signal to turn around. Rachel could already see Bennett’s family scattered among the balconies of the house; they were in position to get the perfect shot. When they reached their starting point, Bennett grabbed her hand and got down on one knee to propose. After a heart felt speech, Rachel of course said “yes!” and had to tell Bennett that it was his turn to put the ring on! The two were met with hugs, champagne, photos, and family on FaceTime as the rest of the Schroeders made their way down to the beach to congratulate them. Bennett’s dad, Jim, even collected bags of sand from where each of them were standing during the special moment. The rest of the night and vacation was full of celebration and fun in the sun. Unfortunately, Hurricane Dorian was on its way and cut the trip short. Still, the moment couldn’t have been any better and the two can’t wait to be married at another one of their happy places; the golf course.

Bennett and Rachel will be married on July 30th, 2021 by Bennett’s godfather, Jon Pogatchnik. The ceremony is to be held outside, overlooking the golf course at Bearpath Golf and Country Club in Eden Prairie, MN. The reception at Bearpath will follow.
