On a beautiful June summer morning, Bennett and Caprice headed out to the Blase Cooke Classic Golf Tournament hosted by Catholic Charities of Baltimore at the Baltimore Country Club. Bennett was a last-minute fill-in to the tournament and Caprice was a Catholic Charities intern giving a helping hand to her team. Bennett walked up to receive his tournament welcome gift with his father and older brother, where Caprice was handing them out. Bennett and Caprice had each other at “hello.” It was love at first sight. Throughout the day, Caprice adamantly tried to catch Bennett’s attention to spark up a conversation, but Bennett was “playing it cool.” After the Catholic Charities auction and dinner, once Caprice realized Bennett would not be making the first move, she took matters into her own hands and asked Bennett for a drink. After an hour of talking and getting to know one another, Bennett walked Caprice to her car and asked for her phone number. Once Caprice drove home to her parents’ house where she was living during the summer before her senior year of college, she ran to her mother, told her all about Bennett, and said “I’m going to marry that man.” She sure was right.
As soon as Bennett and Caprice decided to return to Oahu, Hawaii to spend a second consecutive Thanksgiving with Caprice’s mother’s side of the family, Bennett knew he was going to propose on the trip. One for surprises, Bennett worked tirelessly for six months to make this the surprise of a lifetime for Caprice. The thought of getting proposed to in Hawaii fleetingly crossed Caprice’s mind leading up to the trip, but knowing that Bennett would want his parents present for the celebrations, she quickly assumed he’d wait to propose around Christmas time. If she only knew what Bennett had in store… Leading up to the trip, Bennett had a conversation with Caprice’s best friend and co-maid of honor Maria about his proposal plan. Maria asked Bennett, “Wouldn’t it be amazing if I came?” Bennett answered, “That would be amazing.” The next day, Maria booked her flights to Hawaii. The day of the proposal, under the ruse that the entire family was going to a family friend’s house for dinner, Bennett and Caprice drove to the beach where the house was and walked along the water to get to the house’s back entrance. Making Bennett pause multiple times along the walk, Caprice snapped pictures of Bennett because the view was just too picturesque not too. Bennett internally laughed, knowing there was a photographer waiting a mere 100 feet further down the beach to snap pictures of the big moment. With some persuasion, Bennett continued to usher Caprice down the beach. Bringing her along the water, he dropped down to a knee, and asked her to marry him. Among the many “Oh my God” shouts of shock and joy, Caprice said “Yes!” Once inside the house, Bennett and Caprice were surrounded by Caprice’s family: Mother, Annie, father, Glenn, Aunt Renee, Uncle Roger, Grandma, and cousin Kaya. After a few minutes, Glenn turned to Caprice and asked, “Is someone missing?” With that, Bennett’s parents Ed and Monica stepped into the room, to which Caprice instantly started weeping. After a few more minutes, Ed turned to Caprice and asked “Is someone still missing?” Through her tears, Caprice turned to see Maria, to which she nearly passed out at the site of. Bennett pulled off the perfect surprise and the newly engaged couple enjoyed the best night of their lives surrounded by the people they love the most.
We are incredibly thankful for our family who show us a continued stream of love, our friends who shower us with such joy every day, and blessed by God to be able to celebrate our marriage with every single one of you. See you in Baltimore!
