How We Met

San Antonio, TX

Megan and Carl's story begins in Texas, where both of them were working for the San Antonio Spurs. Megan moved to Texas in 2019 and Carl had been already been living in the Alamo City for 6 years. Working in marketing and sales, they were seeing a lot of each other throughout the work weeks. After having numerous meetings, brainstorm sessions and event setups together, both of their surrounding co-workers (you know who you are!!) started to "encourage" them to get to know each other more as they were the few Midwest folks that worked at SS&E. After a huge event one night, the whole group decided to go out and celebrate the success. While Megan had to host the event, she declined and wanted to go home and recover from the day. Carl took Meg’s number from a friend group chat, texted her separately and told her that she" wasn’t allowed to miss another outing with the group". Not long after that, friends started to notice the flirting between the two at the bar when the group would go out after games. One Saturday, Carl and Megan (The Big Ten fans they are) were texting about the college football games that were on that day. Carl was, let’s say- baiting the hook, and was telling Megan how he had to watch the Buckeyes on his small phone screen and how he wanted to see them and not squint to watch. Megan definitely fell for it and asked if Carl wanted to come over and watch the game at her apartment. Many football Saturdays, Still Golden nights and flirty work meetings later, Carl finally asked Megan out on a date on her birthday. Fun Fact: we kept our relationship a secret (well, we thought it was a secret) from our other co-workers until the company Christmas Party that December.

The Proposal

Cleveland, OH

Having already planned a ski trip to New York, Carl told Megan that they were going to “swing by” Cleveland to celebrate his birthday over dinner with his family. Megan asked if she needed to make a reservation and he said it was already taken care of and that they were going downtown to eat with everyone. Megan thought this was a little out of character for Carl (the whole planning ahead thing) and just went with it, a little hesitant something was going on. After the BEST ski trip, they headed to Cleveland and Carl kept driving on the interstate going past downtown and into a part of the city Megan hadn’t been. He told Megan he had a surprise for her before dinner, but Megan just thought they were going to a brewery or winery and didn’t think much of it. Carl pulled into a parking lot of a beautiful scenic overlook of the city and told Megan “We are just going to take some photos and chat with Matt for a bit before we go to dinner”. Just a note for the reader: IT WAS 15 DEGREES OUTSIDE. We saw Matt, and went to the overlook to view the city from the hill. It was stunning. While Megan was taking in the views, Carl got down on one knee and asked the question. We celebrated with champagne and photos (HUGE shoutout to Matt for helping out on this mission!) and then got in the car to head to a bar to cheers being engaged before meeting up with the Bennett family. Megan Facetimed her parents in the car, where they answered in their car and told her they were on their way to dinner back in Indiana. Bummed, Megan then FaceTimed her brother, grandparents and friends. When they got to the restaurant, everyone was there including the Augers! Balloons and decorations were all over the table and the whole restaurant clapped and yelled as they walked in. They carried on with the celebrations and met up with 2 friends (both in the wedding party) and had a great night. It was the best day of our lives………..thusfar!
