In 2013-2014, as fate would have it Emily-Rae traveled from Ewa Beach, Hawaii and was guided toward higher education there at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona. In 2014-2015, not too many miles to the southeast, from the valley - Ben would travel to GCU. There at Ethington Theatre both were enrolled in the Drama - Theatre program. They were both cast in "A Child's Christmas" written by Dylan Thomas. Ben and Emily-Rae became friends as did a whole host of students in the COFAP program (i.e. members of their bridal party: Miresa, Michelle, Caleb and Evan). Their attraction to each other grew over the semesters there at GCU and the theatre program. By September, 2017, Ben and "Punawai" professed their feelings for each other and began officially dating, leading to the proposal (on stage) at the Zao Theatre, August 9, in The Great Gatsby! "Break a leg!" "Huzza!" "Congratulations!"
