Do rental companies allow snow chains to be used with their vehicles?

Answer

I've called most major rental companies (e.g Hertz, Enterprise, Avis) and spoke to customer service representatives. They will state that they do equip most of their vehicles with all-season tires, but they DO NOT allow snow chains to be used with their vehicles. This puts our guests in a predicament. We understand if you feel the need to abide by the terms and conditions of the rental cars. I've been told personally by multiple locals when inside the park, federal officers will pull you over to make sure snow chains are in possession. Personally, I will be renting snow chains and if needed, I will apply them to my rental vehicle if it is recommended by park officers/troopers.

Stage Stop Address: 5099 CA-140, Mariposa, CA 95338 Smaller chains (passenger cars) $54 out the door includes a $27 deposit you get back when you return the chains (net cost $27) Large chains (SUVs, trucks) $162 out the door includes a $108 deposit you get back when you return the chains. (net cost $54) Rates include the first 7 days. Last verification of rates the above were fairly close, with small variation for sales tax.
