There is so much to do in Boston. A few of our favorite activities: - Walk through Boston Common and on the Freedom Trail - Explore the quaint neighborhood of Beacon Hill (image at the top of this page) - Walk along the Charles River on either the Boston or Cambridge side - Shop on Newbury St. - Go to a Red Sox game at Fenway Park - Take the T to Harvard Square and the campus in Cambridge - Visit the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum To get into Boston from Salem, you can drive, take the commuter rail to North Station, or take a ferry to Boston harbor (link below)
If you are interested in learning about the spooky history of Salem, we recommend going on a nighttime ghost tour! We did this with some friends around Halloween, and it was definitely scary. This is within walking distance from the recommended hotels, and the link is below. Salem also has a nice downtown area to walk around in with many witch-themed shops. There are several museums and historical sites to visit. Salem has a few local restaurant chains that we love: - American Flatbread, 311 Derby St. (5 min. walk from main hotel) - Life Alive Organic Cafe, 281 Essex St. (12 min. walk from main hotel) - Boston Burger Company, 133 Washington St. (9 min. walk from main hotel) Other restaurant recommendations: https://www.bostonmagazine.com/restaurants/best-restaurants-salem/ We also recommend checking out the biergarten and taproom at Notch Brewing, located right across the street from the main hotel!
Rockport is gorgeous in the summer. You can go shopping or relax at the beach in this cute coastal town. Rockport is accessible on the commuter rail and is one of Emily's favorite North Shore towns.
Newburyport is another cute coastal town accessible on the commuter rail. There is more shopping here and lots of good restaurants.
