We had to get creative early in our relationship with where and when we could be alone given that we were both living with our parents at the time we met. Ben is always on top of planning dates and spoiling me rotten, even from the first date, but we didn’t have anywhere that was just for us. So begins the cabin adventures! In our daydreams, we would always talk about running away together and finally being alone. Ben was amazing, as per usual, and planned a whole weekend for us to do exactly that at a cozy secluded cabin in Midway. The whole weekend was perfect. He remembered me yapping (many weeks prior, mind you) about wanting to experience “bubble dining” and booked us our own private bubble at a place near the cabin. He kept it a secret until we pulled up to the restaurant, but the second I saw where we were I felt like a kid whose parents just pulled up to a surprise vacation to Disneyland! When we got back to the cabin, we spent most of the night sitting in the sunroom playing each other songs on the guitar and soaking in the solace of it finally being just the two of us. At the end of the night, Ben pulled out a folded up piece of paper with a poem he wrote for me. Immediate happy tears. Turns out, this was all an elaborately planned lead up for Ben to ask me to be his girlfriend. More happy tears. It was the fastest and easiest “yes” for me up until the day he asked me to marry him.
