How We Met

An immediate spark, a persistent connection

We met one fateful spring evening in 2014. Chris was in his intern year of general surgery residency, and Ben was in his first year of optometry school; we both randomly decided on a random Sunday night to go to a random club called Royale with our respective gaggle of gays. Neither Ben or Chris ran into each until the end of the night when all of the lights came on and everyone started floating slowly from the dance floor to the coat check line. Our eyes locked from across the dance floor, and Chris walked right up to Ben and said hello. An immediate spark. Two days later, we met for coffee to make sure the other person wasn't totally insane. In case we needed to make a quick getaway, we both had plans in place (Chris's were real, Ben's were totally made up). The coffee got cold as we walked around Newbury street, and it was clear that an escape was not needed. Chris was going to an Iggy Azalea concert that night (back when Black Widow was a new song), and Ben bought a ticket and joined to keep the day from ending. A day turned into over 8 years. Over time, new members began to join our little family. Chris already had a cat named Mimi, but our tiny RuPaw kitten joined in the summer of 2016. And our fabulous and not so tiny dog Zola came home the summer of 2021. Ben graduated school/residency and is now a professor at the school that made him an optometrist. Chris graduated residency/fellowship and is now an attending cardiothoracic surgeon at Boston Medical Center. In the whirlwind that life has brought us, we have found ourselves loving Boston and all of its eccentricities, moving from Kenmore to South End to Copley Square to JP and now to downtown. Our memories here are so special because of the friends we have made, the moments we have shared, and the love and support of our family that we wished lived much closer than they do. We are so looking forward to spending time with people that we love, whether they're new friends, old neighbors, our favorite queers, or the blood relatives that are stuck with us forever. You've been with us through the good times and bad, and we can't wait to celebrate a very, very good time together <3
