Ben and Gwen met online on July 19, 2022. Ben lived in southern California and had grown up surfing in Malibu and exploring the red woods. Gwen lived in northern Idaho and would rather write about ocean adventures than actually live one. They instantly hit it off, co-authoring a miniature novel together over email and chatting for 3.5 hours on the phone. After corresponding for eight days, Ben decided he had to meet Gwen in person. They met face to face on August 11. Five days later, he asked her what she would think about him moving to Idaho "in less than a month." Her reply: "Would it seriously take you that long?" The next day, Ben brought up baby names. A few days after that, he talked to Gwen's dad and got the green light to move into what turned out to be a lickety-split courtship with endless phone calls and FaceTimes and Marco Polos. On September 14, Ben moved to Moscow. Ten days after that, he asked Gwen to marry him. And seven and a half weeks later, here they are, making vows in a beautiful barn in the middle of the Palouse.
