It was springtime in Nashville, Tennessee, 2021. Seth was finishing up another semester as a youth leader volunteer and Lindsey’s job as a school nurse was about to break for the summer. COVID-19 numbers were down and the only social outlet was going to the gym. Lindsey and Seth had both been climbing at the same rock climbing gym for years and had just started having more run-ins due to mutual friends. Seth knew that Lindsey was 3 weeks away from leaving to go to Seattle, Washington to serve as a backpacking guide for a few months. Lindsey knew that Seth was well connected as a friend, youth leader, and employee at Siloam Health, but not much else. Seth began reaching out to climb, grab lunch, and buy her coffee for Nurse’s Week while keeping his intentions hidden trying to “lay ground work”. Lindsey was trying to figure out if he was serious enough about the relationship to pursue her over long distance. Over 3 weeks of dating, they discovered shared love for the Lord, hearts to serve with vulnerable populations, a love to sing worship music together, and adventurous spirits. The had a “DTR” confirming their desire to continue talking throughout the summer. Suddenly, Lindsey was across the country and their communication depended on Lindsey having cell service and their schedules coinciding. What started out as a weekly call, became multiple letters during the week while Lindsey was in the backcountry, and hours of “FaceTime dates” during the weekends. They listened to podcasts and read books, asked intentional questions about desires and beliefs, and they shared about their summer adventures. Seth made the bold move of coming to visit Lindsey at the end of the summer and to meet her family for the first time who was on vacation visiting Seattle as well. The time together out west confirmed the hope they saw in the future of their relationship. They came back to Nashville and transitioned to dating while living in the same city, attending the same church, continuing to learn more about each other and discern marriage. That following March, Seth planned a trip for them to visit Virginia, to see family, to meet friends, and to see his alma mater. They stopped at their favorite climbing crag on the way back to Nashville called, The Obed, where Seth hid a letter at the top of a rock wall. Lindsey retrieved it, they walked to a waterfall, and read the letter. Seth then pulled out the ring, got down on one knee, and asked Lindsey to marry him! Lindsey was very surprised, crying, and responded with an excited “YES!” (After many “no way, no way, no ways!”). They cannot wait to celebrate their marriage with you at their wedding. They so appreciate the prayers, wisdom and guidance of their family and support systems and ask for your continued prayers leading up to their wedding and as they begin their marriage together!
