Ben and Nicole’s story does not really have a beginning in the classic sense. There was no first date. No first moment of meeting. It’s a relationship. It evolved over time establishing deep roots. Slowly growing and expanding and sharing of all aspects of their worlds. Family. Travel. Work. Vision. Coalescing and culminating in a whole. Of love. And marriage. Two people who get each other. Who can complete each other sentences, sometimes. Just as often, each offers a different vision to the other that expands both of their worlds. Our unique story moved forward when Ben proposed over tacos and champagne. The setting was the deck overlooking Portland and the spot where they will be married. He invited her out onto the deck on a beautiful day and she was worried. Why in the middle of the day were we out on the deck drinking champagne? And when did Ben start eating tacos? As they settled in Nicole realized she had an appointment jumped up and said, “Sorry I have to go. I’ll be back in an hour.” Three hours later, she returned only to rush up to her study to receive a report on some work and to finish some correspondence. Ben coaxed her to come down to get something to eat and, soon there after, they were back on the couch with the beautiful vista and him on his knee offering his commitment and marriage. Happily, through the tears, consent was forthcoming
