Travel Note
Matera has a historic district known as "i Sassi," which is very picturesque and offers a variety of bed and breakfast options. These accommodations are typically housed in ancient buildings. Bear in mind that these accommodations are not always easily accessible and that this part of town restricts car traffic. The wedding venue, the Masseria, is located just outside Matera. Nearby, there are additional apartment-style accommodations, ideal for groups of four or more who wish to stay together. These apartments provide a more affordable alternative to staying in the Sassi and are a 10-minute drive from the Matera city centre and i Sassi.
Travel Note
There are several shuttle services from Bari Airport to Matera. Matera Centrale-Viale Aldo Moro is the preferred Matera's stop; if you arrive at the Matera New City- Via Don Luigi Sturzo you might need to take a taxi to the City Centre (Sassi). While there are limited daily connections, you can find information about the buses and book tickets on this website. Also it is possible your hotel offers a shuttle service, so you may want to check with them.
Travel Note
If you are traveling from the city of Bari, you can reach Matera via the Ferrovie Appulo Lucane (FAL). This is a local railway system separate from the national railway network (Matera is one of the few cities in Italy not connected to the main railway system.) The FAL station is located adjacent to main Bari Central station.
