Our Story

After coming off a string of bad frogs, Liz’s friends recommended that she find a nice Jewish boy. She even joked about it with her family. She was driving from Santa Barbara to San Francisco to go see friends for a weekend, and before she left her 10 year old nephew said to her “I hope you meet your Jewish husband!” This is all true! Ben and Liz met at a full moon, summer solstice, silent disco party (say that 5 times fast), where they had mutual friends. You could say the moon and the stars brought them together. Liz says Ben followed her around like a puppy dog. Liz liked the attention, but could tell that Ben was younger than her, so she was unsure about him. When Liz made it back to SB her Mom asked her how her weekend went and saw her smile. Mama Lola immediately knew and said, “you met someone didn’t you?!” The two started talking and hit it off. They began arranging visits, as they lived 5 hours apart directly on (the) 101. Being together felt comfortable, honest, and exciting. They found things in common, like sports, music, and nature. When COVID hit, the two had the opportunity to “quarantine” together in Tahoe at Ben’s ski lease. They enjoyed spending time together watching the snow fall, the sun set, and in the spring, kayaking and biking. They were very lucky to be “stuck” there together. It was during this time they fell in love. As summer approached, they decided to move to San Carlos and live with Ben’s parents. Ben had wanted to help out caretaking with his Mother, and his ability to work from home due to COVID made it the perfect time. Liz took on a huge load helping out. She made meals for the family, and took Ben’s Mom on bike rides and other outings. Ben loved and appreciated Liz’s loving nature and ability to understand and connect with his Mom. It was a difficult time caretaking, but Ben and Liz were grateful for the precious time with Ben’s Mother. During this time, Ben’s Dad taught the two to tandem bike. There is something about being clipped in together while flying down the road at 50 mph - it takes a lot of trust. They realized they made a good team. To this day, time on the tandem is something that is important and special to the two riders. Liz is the perfect stoker, strong and trusting, and Ben is a great captain, except when he accidentally passes gas while riding. As things returned to “normal”, the two moved to the Mission neighborhood in SF, where they lived for two years. They loved their apartment, and friends always laughed when they found that one of the bedrooms was a bike room. Soon after, they adopted two adorable black kittens, which they named Bear and Wolf. They give the two energy, love, cuddles, and smile on a bad day. Recently, Ben and Liz moved to Santa Barbara where Ben quickly proposed. The surprise proposal in front of family and friends was a magical and unforgettable evening. No matter what life throws their way, the two will continue to be in tandem.
