How We Met

Her Side We met at church back in... Yep, 2006. I was in 3rd grade and he was in 4th grade. Ben didn't know who I was back then because I was extremely shy and did not really talk to anyone then (lol). However, I found myself having a really big crush on Ben because he reminded me of an anime character I had a crush on the time (Naruto... lol #yikes). Even though I had never spoken to him, I could tell that Ben was extremely passionate, courageous, and also very caring. I liked him so much, I even prayed I would marry him one day! (Lol, looks like it worked xD). In high school, we attended mission trips together and became casual friends, but then we drifted apart after Ben went to college at Georgia Tech. We later reconnected in June 2017 when Ben came back during our college summers through our faith. To my surprise, we clicked better than we ever had before! From our personalities, interests, and deep conversations, both of us began to wonder if there was something more. About a year later (June 2018), Ben confessed his feelings for me and we began formally dating in October 2018. YEET! <3 His Side Unbeknownst to me, I only found out that Helen knew me from long ago after we started dating. For me, it was only until summer 2017 that I got to start knowing Helen more deeply. Over the next year, I grew to love Helen's pursuit of faith, realness and kindness towards her family and friends. One late night in June of 2018, as I was video calling with Helen, I surprised her with my confession out of the blue. She literally fell off the bed in shock! We spent the few months talking through our relationship carefully and finally started dating in October of 2018!

The Proposal

April 3, 2021

For the proposal, I definitely wanted to surprise Helen by involving her closest friends. I figured what better place than at church from all the memories we had growing up there! As I hatched a plan with Julissa, Arisa, Molly, Katrina and Jenny, we set the target date for 4/3/21. The morning of, Julissa led the charge in coordinating 10+ other friends to help and set up the chapel with a mind-blowing setup and perfectly planned out decorations. In the afternoon, Katrina tricked Helen to come to church under the guise of worship practice. With the time approaching, everyone hid to give me some time alone in the chapel to prepare. As Katrina brought Helen through the chapel door, she froze and could not believe what she was seeing. I was definitely nervous, but knew that Helen was even more shook. The next few minutes passed by so fast as I brought Helen to the center-piece and asked Helen for her hand in marriage. After a resounding "Yes", everyone who hid came out and gave Helen another surprise. In addition, a number of our friends and family also zoomed in to say a word of congrats! Afterwards, we had a great time with games led by Molly and took a number of photos to commemorate the proposal. I am so thankful for all my family and friends who helped support us and I could not have done it without you all, especially Julissa, Arisa, Molly, Katrina and Jenny!
