Our first time hanging out was when we had a few of the free coupon books they handed out on campus and we drove around town buying obscene amounts of food for a marginally lower price. He made the bright decision to come live with Dean, Michael, and I at the Lab junior year. We all lived together at the Lab for four years and then Kev and I lived together for one more year after. There has never been a time I've tried to call Kevin when I needed something and he didn't answer. He is always willing to help people around him and puts his friends before himself. Dean was our Resident Assistant in Allison Hall. As my family was helping move me into the dorm, he walked in and confidently introduced himself to me and then confused my brother in law Manuel (see below) as my actual roommate Michael (see above). Dean wasn't sure of me at first, but within the weekend I proved my elite athletic prowess when I ran after a frisbee we were playing with at the Oval, dove for it, and landed in the street on my face. Dean looked after all of us freshman year and for the last 10 years I think we've all been looking after each other. Dean has been a friend in school, in relationships, and in faith. Manuel and I became friends when he was first visiting GJ and offered to make chicken fried rice for the family. It takes a lot of work to make this specialty of his, and at some point in the day, we found ourselves cooking together without supervision, and worse, without anyone to help make decisions. We pondered for a while how much dry rice to make and ultimately settled on a few cups past a lot. I have always felt that we bonded over my mom's largest pot overflowing with rice. Since we became friends, he has married my sister and fathered my nephew. Manuel has a unique and honest perspective on life and I've learned a lot about how to handle (I mean treat) a wife and welcome people as family.
