Premier Virginia art museum featuring American and European art, Faberge eggs, indigenous art, and Tiffany lamps are some of our favorites. And the best part: admission is free!
Public park on the grounds of a Gilded Age estate with house museum, petting zoo, and Japanese and Italianate gardens.
Historic house museum crafted from a deconstructed Tudor mansion moved to Virginia from the English countryside.
Indoor mini golf with a grand hotel theme. Good if the weather turns soggy.
The Richmond Folk Festival spans the whole weekend, with over 30 artists from around the world performing on six stages on Browns Island and downtown celebrating "the roots, richness, and variety of American culture through music, dance, traditional crafts, storytelling, and food."
Cary Street is full of great restaurants, shops, and bars (including the Jasper, where we had our first date!). Favorites include Sugar & Twine coffee shop, CanCan Brasserie, Dinner Party boutique, and The Daily restaurant.
A beautiful six-mile loop around both sides of the James River in Richmond. You can complete the loop, stop for a swim, or get dropped off at the trailhead and exit at various other points. Trail map can be found on Strava. Sturdy shoes recommended.
Shenandoah National Park is about an hour-and-a-half drive from Richmond. Take a scenic drive along the Blue Ridge Highway, stop at some great breweries and wineries (we like Devil's Backbone, Bold Rick Cider, and Hazy Mountain Vineyard), or take a beautiful hike (we like Humpback Rock for a short adventure and White Oak Canyon trail for a longer hike with beautiful waterfalls).
