High Altitude Prep / FAQs

Jackson Hole is a valley between the Teton Mountain Range and Gros Ventre Range in Wyoming. The term "hole" was used by early trappers or mountain men, who primarily entered the valley from the north and east and had to descend along relatively steep slopes, giving the sensation of entering a hole. This gorgeous valley sits at a base elevation of 6,311 feet above sea level. For your reference: Boulder, CO: 5,430 ft Charlotte, NC: 751 ft Columbus, OH: 902 ft Darien, CT: 52 ft Nashville, TN: 597 ft Stay Hydrated- Drink A LOT of water. However, the better hydrated you are BEFORE you arrive and during your stay, the easier and faster the transition will be. You should be drinking at least 2x the amount of water you normally drink at home. Take frequent water breaks during strenuous activity (like dancing at our reception). Watch Your Alcohol Consumption- The effects of alcohol tend to be more potent at high altitudes-some sources say twice as potent.
