Question

Where should I stay?

Answer

Where you want to stay will depend on what kind of experience you want. If you are looking to sample restaurants, experience night life, and be on the beach then you will enjoy Waikiki. One the best things about Waikiki is that many experiences are within walking distance, but you can get just about anywhere on the bus. If you are looking for a bit of a slower pace, Kailua and Lanikai might be more your speed. Experience live music, good food, and some of the most beautiful beaches away from the bustle of downtown Waikiki. Accommodations in this area will likely consist of vacation rentals. If you are planning to stay in Kailua, the town itself is great to walk around. If you are looking to have access to Honolulu, it is recommended to arrange a vehicle or rideshare. And if you are just looking to get away from it all, the North Shore area is where you will want to stay. Far away from the city, small towns like Haleiwa, or Laie can offer a slower pace. Keep in mind that these places, while far away from Honolulu, still have a lot of visitors, and there is often a lot of traffic during the day. If you are planning to stay on the North Shore, there are very few hotel options. It is recommended that our friends planning to stay on the North Shore plan to rent a vehicle.
