Getting to Hvar Island
The closest airport to Hvar island is Split (SPU). Direct flights to Split are available from most European cities.
To get from the airport to Split there are Ubers (~ 30 euro), a shuttle to the center and the ferry (~10-15 euro) and a local bus (~ 2 euro with frequent stops, it can take about an hour). We strongly recommend avoiding taking taxis from the airport as they can charge 60-100 euro!
You can also rent a car and take it on the ferry to Hvar.
From Split there are several ferries a day to Hvar that take between 1-2 hours. The ferry station is walking distance from the center of town. Ferries go to Stari grad, Jelsa (10 minutes drive from Stari grad) and Hvar (30 minutes drive from Stari grad). You can view the ferry schedule and buy tickets here and also in the port of Split: https://www.jadrolinija.hr/en/search-buy-ticket.
If you are taking a car on the ferry book a few days in advance! Car and motor bike rental are also possible on Hvar.
