Great question! And the answer is...nothing! When the British first colonized India, they formatted Indian cities to be more English. Bengaluru become Bangalore, Chennai became Madras and Mumbai became Bombay. In an effort to reclaim the cities’ proper name, in 2014, the Karnataka Government officially started using Bengaluru again.
Bengaluru is located in the state of Karnataka and is the tech capital of India - constantly evolving culturally. In Karnataka, the local language is Kannada (pronounced: Khun•ah•duh) but almost everyone speaks English!
The weather in Bengaluru can sometimes surprise you with a morning shower but usually the temperature fluctuates between 70-80 degrees in November.
Bengaluru only has one airport - Kempegowda International Airport.
Once we have all your flight information, we will arrange pick up and drop off to and from the Kempegowda International Airport.
We will only providing transportation from Bengaluru airport to/from the Ritz Carlton, however there are many other options if you are planning to tour other parts of India. Mumbai and New Delhi both have large international airports.
You don’t have to although most of our functions will be held there so it would be convenient! If you choose to stay at a different hotel, you will have to be responsible for your own transportation to and from the airport.
To get the most current rates, please Google the conversion between $1 USD to Indian Rupee but usually $1 USD = 65-70 Indian Rupees.
We'd recommend contacting your service provider with an international plan, some have unlimited data plans for around 10 dollars a day.
Of course! Check the 'Things to Do' page for some great sari shops. We will have a sari dresser go around to the rooms before the Sangeet and wedding ceremony.
Since the hotel is very central to shopping especially on MG Road and Brigade road, its quite easy to get from point A to point B. For the adventurous, auto rickshaws (three wheeled taxis) are a fun way to travel short distances from the hotel (they only accept cash) but we recommend Uber! The GPS will do the talking for you in case the driver has limited English and your Uber account can be linked to any credit card even for use in India. The charge will then be converted into rupees. The hotel will also help you when booking cars for day trips and can grab an auto for you to confirm everything with the driver beforehand!
