Minnesota State Fair
The Great Minnesota Get Together. The best state fair in these United States. If you're coming in a little early or staying after, this is what you should do. Let us know if you're considering it, because we're toying with a trip on 8/21 or 22.
Minneapolis Institute of Art
Our flagship art museum (there are many others) is free and wonderful. Go see the Jade Mountain Illustrating the Gathering of Scholars at the Lanting Pavilion piece that has fascinated Ben since he was a child.
Lake of the Isles
This is our favorite paddle boarding lake, but consider this a recommendation for Minneapolis chain of lakes in general. Kayaks and paddle boards can be rented on Bde Maka Ska and taken right through the channel into Lake of the Isles.
Wild Rumpus Books
A lovely children's bookstore partially (and cooperatively) owned by a friend. Ben got to see Brian Jacques here when he was in 3rd grade and it was the best day ever. Amazing little store.
Minnesota Zoo
We have a world class zoo, and they have a Red Panda exhibit! Very close to Ben's parent's house.
Hai Hai
Aside from our venue, this is one of the restaurants we just always find ourselves heading to. Northeast (Nordeast) Minneapolis is it's own vibe too. A dive bar staple, Grumpy's, is just across the street and another great dive, 331 Club, is a few blocks away. Oh, and Hai Hai has a James Beard if you care about that sort of thing. Get the shrimp toast.
