Most people say the friends you make in college will be your best friends for life—no pressure for an 18-year-old living away from home for the first time. At a university of over 50,000 students, there’s no shortage of fresh faces. For Emma and Owen, things were no different. By a stroke of fate, they chose the same school, lived in the same dorm neighborhood, and even stayed in the same residence hall. In the fall of 2017, Emma joined a group of new friends to watch High School Musical. That same night, Owen came back to the dorms after work and stopped by his friend’s room across the hallway. It was there that Emma and Owen locked eyes for the first time. Over the next year, Emma and Owen gradually got to know each other through mutual friends at football games, in the cafeteria, and in class. At first, they were just friends—until they weren’t. In January 2019, over a year since they first met, Owen asked Emma to make things official, and they haven’t looked back since. Over the next six years, they graduated, moved to Chicago, started full-time jobs in the middle of a pandemic, changed careers, began graduate school, and traveled across the U.S.—from Arizona to Florida, Wyoming to Maine, and even across the pond to the United Kingdom and France. Now, as many of you know, what happened in Paris is why you’re reading this today. To celebrate, Owen and Emma invite you to join them at Twin Lakes Golf & Swim Club to kick off the next chapter of their lives in the most memorable way possible.
