We met in middle school through a mutual friend. We talked exactly twice a year. One for our birthdays because they are within a day of each other, and the other at academic award events because our last names are close in the alphabet. We went on for six years like this exchange very little conversation. Our senior year of high school we started hanging out more and ended up dating on October 4, 2019. We both graduated high school and ended up going to college in different sates. During that time we were not together, but after our freshman year we started hanging out again and the rest is history.

Abbey (Mason's-sister-in law) had asked me to take a few pictures with Kenadee (Masons's sister) for her photography portfolio for school and her business. Because we were taking pictures for abbeys schoolwork I cluelessly let her choose my outfit and do my hair "so it could match her aesthetic" as Abbey would say. We were climbing up a mountain to a special spot where mason and I went all the time. Abbey, Kenadee, and I started our hike up the mountain at sunset "to get the best lighting." Kenadee was rushing us up this mountain and I thought it was weird but gave no attention to it. When we got to the top, we were sitting up on the mountain taking pictures and watching the lightning as a storm rolled when a hiker came up the trail. This hiker had long brown hair, with a bucket hat on, walking sticks, a backpack, and what appeared to be regular hiking apparel. When we saw the hiker Abbey said she always felt awkward taking pictures in front of random people as they passed by. This freaked me out and I started to get weirded out by this random hiker. As the hiker rounded the corner and I saw his face and I knew it was Mason. He had driven ten hours from Utah with his roommates and some of our friends. We got home from the mountain, and everyone was there to surprise me with a celebration for engagement.
