I'm sure we'll have to explain this one to our families, but the young folks will know just what we mean when we say, "We swiped right." The story that I (Laura) said I'd tell until the end was that we met at Starbucks; which wasn't a lie. We officially met in person at Starbucks. However, we first "met" on a dating app. We talked for a few days and then Nate came and crashed one of my routine Sunday study sessions at Starbucks. And history was written...
We both joke that we cannot keep a secret or surprise from the other. However, Nate surprised me COMPLETELY with his proposal. I arrived home from work on a Friday night (Friday the 13th to be exact) to flowers in the kitchen and Nate told me we were going to dinner. I went upstairs to get ready and found more flowers in the bedroom, and then more in the laundry room. I know...I should've known something was up by now, but he said he was making up for missed time since he hadn't bought me flowers in a while. We had a fantastic dinner at the best Italian place around. When we arrived home, I went upstairs only to come back down to yet another bouquet; this time a dozen red roses with a letter attached. This was the first moment that I thought, "Wow, this might be it." I skipped to the P.S. on the letter and when it didn't have THAT question, I just thought Nate was being sweet again. As I finished reading the letter, Nate pulled a little red box out of his pocket, got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. I was in shock at first, then couldn't quit asking if he was really sure, but eventually, through sobs, said yes. This was the most special, intimate and thoughtful way he could have proposed. We had just moved into our first home a few days before and our living room became the place where the rest of our lives began. Also, he had the coordinates of our home, and proposal spot, inscribed into the band of my ring. Yes, he's really THAT great!
