I had wished on a shooting star about a week before meeting Ryan. Not a few days after speaking with him for the first time, I was driving in the middle of the night to his work to bring him a vanilla milkshake. I like to count this as our first date because it's such a funny story. I was waiting for him in a poorly lit, kinda sketchy parking lot at his job. He walked out of the building, and all I remember is the flickering light from the other side of the parking lot as he approached me. The first thing he did was pull me in for a hug, and I just remember never wanting to let go. From that night on, I always joked that my milkshake definitely brought the right boy to the yard.
We had decided to take a trip to Padre Island for the weekend with our friends Madie and Ian. We arrived at the Airbnb around two or three in the morning and promptly went to bed, excited to finally be at the beach the next day. As always, Ryan was impossible to wake up, but after some dilly-dallying, we were on our way to the ocean breeze. Madie was trying to get her camera to work to take some pictures of the beach (or so I thought), and after a while of figuring out the SD card problems, we were good to go. Ryan had a boogie board in one hand, and my hand in the other as he eagerly pulled me into the ocean. After we got a few yards in, I hesitated and told him that I was scared to go any further because I couldn't see in the dark water. He turned back to me and asked, "Well, are you scared to spend the rest of your life with me?", and the rest was history (and a lot of crying on my part) !
