During the Fall of 2018, Trey ran into a brother from church on his lunch. Over the course of their conversation, he randomly asked Trey, if he was interested in anyone at church. Trey told him he found Joi attractive and he wanted to get to know her more. Fast forward to a few weeks later, and the brother from church had arranged for Joi and Trey to meet up, along with a few others at Punch Bowl Social in the Battery in Atlanta. They didn't know much about each other at the time, but once Trey and Joi started talking, the conversation flowed so naturally and they both felt a good chemistry between the two of them. After that evening, Trey asked for Joi's number and the rest is history; they have talked every day since that conversation. It was very important to the both of them that they build a friendship first. So for several months, they continued to build on their friendship and grow closer together. As their friendship grew, their feelings for one another grew stronger. Trey asked Joi to officially be his girlfriend on January 15, 2019. Something beautiful about their relationship is that prior to entering into relationship with each other, Trey and Joi wanted their relationship to be centered around God and made the decision to wait to have sex until marriage. Over the course of their relationship, they have really developed a deep love for each other and are truly best friends. On September 13, 2020, Trey asked Joi to be his wife at the same place they first met. Although Joi asked to go back several times since 2018, this was actually the first time they had been back there since that day. That was intentional on Trey's part, because he knew that the next time they went back to that spot, he wanted it to be when he asked Joi to be his wife. They are beyond excited for their union and to spend the rest of their lives together.
