Their story began one cool evening in February at a small concert featuring alternative county artist, John Moreland. Jett had been with a group of friends earlier that night and reluctantly left to make an impression on his new boss who had invited him to the concert. Emily had been a fan of Mr. Moreland for some time and given Tallahassee's limited music scene, was thrilled to see he was coming to town. A few songs into the set list, Jett came over to say hello to Emily's friend Joe who was in the same fraternity and during the course of conversation was introduced to Emily. Despite their best attempts, their conversation was muffled by steel guitars and songs of broken hearts. As the band left the stage, Jett's opportunity to court Emily appeared to be fading. Luckily, the venue quickly turned into a dance floor and the couple traded the two-step for casual chatter about Whole Foods, vegetarian diets, and sustaining Florida's natural resources. Although it seemed natural, Jett hesitated to ask Emily for her number in fear that she would fiercely oppose his love of hunting and laissez-faire capitalism. After an awkward hug and cordial salutation, the two went their separate ways. Days later, Jett realized that he may have judged the beautiful brunette too quickly and curiosity prevailed. Jett secured her number via a mutual friend of Jett and Joe's and asked her out. Emily obliged, recalling that Jett was taller than her and had a great head of hair. The two agreed to meet over libations and quickly found themselves in deep conversations about their mutual love for the outdoors, coconut La Croix, and most importantly, Jesus.
After months of planning (and sneaking around), Jett executed the most thoughtful engagement over Labor Day weekend. The Florida State Seminoles were set to kick-off their first game of the season on Monday so we decided to fully embrace the fanfare of a gameday weekend for an extra day. On Sunday afternoon, Jett told me that he had found a parking pass for football season on Craigslist that he wanted to buy. I told him that sounded like a great deal and we should do it. He came to pick me up for "dinner with our friends who were here from out of town," but said we were going to meet the man selling the pass at the Wescott Fountain before dinner. (Anyone who knows Jett knows that this was not suspicious in the slightest - no one is more enthused about a Craigslist deal. In fact, when we arrived at the Fountain, I was so oblivious that I asked whether or not I needed to get out of the car.) As we got closer to the fountain I could tell he fervently looking down at the ground when suddenly we came to a brick with the inscription, "Emily: Will you marry me? -Jett" My heart jumped out my chest and before I knew it, he was on one knee saying, "It's time. Will you marry me?" This beautiful proposal was followed by a surprise engagement party hosted by our closest family and friends. The whole night absolutely blew us away – we've never felt so loved, cared for or celebrated.
